To date we have made submissions and representations on the the Māori Language (Te Reo Māori) Bill 2014; the Education (Strengthening Second Language Learning in Primary and Intermediate Schools) Amendment Bill 2020; the Pacific Languages Strategy 2021; the consultation on social cohesion 2021; the proposed changes to language competency for teaching 2024; and the Treaty Principles Bill 2025.
We have also provided support to partner groups for advice to the Ministry of Education on reviewing and delivering the current Learning Languages Policy and on Pasifika Bilingual Education; and for submissions on the need for more support in education for the Hindi language; the impact of the English language requirements for initial teacher education (ITE) on recruitment of community language speakers and experts and educators in early childhood centres and schools; and language issues for the regulatory review of early childhood education.
